7/21/2016 1 Comment Tufflepuffs in the Summer Part IIIWell folks, here it is. The last of the Tufflepuffs in the summer. We hope you enjoyed learning about some of our players! This week, we're focusing on our rising sophomores.
Today, we'll be kicking it off with Athena Mayor! This summer, Athena is traveling around a lot. She will be visiting Martha's Vineyard, the Bahamas (picture above with the piggies) and possibly Greece! Other than that, she's just hanging out being lazy-- the best way to spend the summer, let's be real. Next, we have the oh so exciting Javier Licardie! He's spending his summer taking Organic Chemistry 1 AND 2 at Tufts. Good on you, buddy! Now we have Kasey Tamamoto! This summer, Kasey is relaxing in her home state of Hawaii (not a bad place to relax). In addition to relaxing, she is also helping to save the world by volunteering at medical clinics and working a part-time job. Our last rising sophomore, Sasha Raveendran Greene, snagged an awesome internship in Singapore! In addition to working, she is also watching a lot of Game of Thrones, an excellent past-time in my opinion. Hope you're having an awesome summer working in Singapore! Last, but certainly not least, we have Ari Panzer who is a rising senior. He is placed in this grouping because he was the last person to fill out my Google form! Ari is spending his summer working at Tufts doing public health research and interning at Brigham Women's Hospital. Most of the week, he is filled to the brim with work. But on weekends, he is exploring Boston with friends, playing way too much spikeball (and I can attest to that), and enjoying the Tufts campus in the wonderful Boston heat. He is looking forward to his summer work winding down and relaxing until school starts.

7/20/2016 1 Comment Tufflepuffs in the Summer Part IIThis week we're going to focus on our rising juniors! We'll kick it off with Kenny Weitzman! This summer, Kenny is interning with Senator Shaheen. He has loved his summer job so far and cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer holds for him!
Next up is Devon Ramsey! Devon is spending his summer playing for the Boston Night Riders, taking classes at Tufts, and forcing kids to be literate. In a nice way, he's trying to teach kids how to read. He's also spending his summer hanging out with a lot of quid folks. Nerd. Third is Mr. Jordan Kemp! This summer, Jordan is working under Professor Tobin in the Tufts physics department taking extremely artsy photos of the vacuum he works with (check out his Instagram @jordy_no.10). Besides doing research all day every day, Jordan is chilling out and enjoy the Boston summer heat. Last for this week is meeeee, Adina Feinstein! This summer, I am working in the Tufts astrophysics department under the advisement of Professor Marchesini. My project involves using images from the Hubble Space Telescope! (And I won't bore you with the other details.) Other than research, I am spending a lot of time crocheting and taking weekend trips out of Boston with friends. 7/11/2016 1 Comment Tufflepuffs in the Summer! We're back for round THREEE! Aren't you curious as to what we are doing this summer? If you aren't, then you definitely should be because our players are doing some pretty cool stuff this summer! We'll kick it off with our rising seniors!
David Stack! This summer, David is doing summer scholars, a research program for undergraduates here at Tufts. He's working with Professor Lantagne on chlorination of water. He's spending his days in a lab measuring the residual chlorine effect of NaDCC and NaOCl (the two main types of chlorine used to treat contaminated drinking water) to determine which type of chlorine is better to use. He is also keeping for the Boston Night Riders, Boston's MLQ team, and playing spikeball any chance he gets. Next up is Sir Nicolas Sempere! Nicolas is spending his summer in his hometown of Houston, Texas, working as a software developer for Exxon. He also came back to Boston for the Fourth of July to hang with us! At the end of the summer, Nick plans on taking one heck of a road trip to Peru with a friend. He also wants to sneak in another trip somewhere, so I'll keep you up to date on that! Third today is our good buddy, Ian Luo! This summer Ian is staring blankly at computers for 8 hours a day at Trip Advisor and having daily existential crises about why he chose to major on computer science. Oy... Saving the best for last, is my mentor McKenzie Welter! This summer, she is working as a data analyst at Deloitte at 30 Rock. She loves her job because she gets to see a giant picture of her bae's face every day: Jimmy Fallon! Other than working, McKenzie plans on visiting every free/ pay-what-you-want museum in Manhattan, breaking the world record for hours spent traveling between New York and Boston (WEEE!), and finding the best food truck that parks within a 2 block radius of Rockefeller Center. Good luck with all of those things, McKenzie! 10/26/2015 1 Comment New Quids on the Block! For the final post, we'll begin with Ariel Serruya. Ariel spent a majority of the summer pushing his luscious hair off of his face. When his hair was in a bun, Ariel had an internship with Nassau County Executive, Ed Mangano. Outside of the office, he spent his days chilling with his homies. Devon Ramsey, a rising sophomore, spent his summer teaching children how to read. Devon, like a majority of the team, has a kind soul. Next is our recently graduated amazing beater, Jordan Anderson! She spent her summer studying for the MCATs. A very thrilling past time indeed. We love you Jordan and hope you come back to play with us this upcoming season! And as for me? We'll I spent my summer keeping you all up to date with our players! Off the Weebly site, I went to Israel and Florida to visit family, stand-up paddleboarded... a lot, and escaped the room (in 53 minutes and 20 seconds, if you must know). I also spent my summer looking at pretty pictures of galaxies from the Hubble Space Telescope. Oh, and I drove to Pennsylvania to take a selfie with a giraffe #worthit. 8/23/2015 1 Comment Tufflepuffs in the Summer: Part 3This week, we finish the rising Juniors with McKenzie Welter! This summer, she worked in the accounting office of the high school of former Tufflepuff Michael Sanders. During her time at the high school, McKenzie did a lot of paper shredding, a fun past time for many, and balancing statements. Now, she is studying abroad in the land where sheep reign over people: New Zealand. She's enjoying New Zealand's gorgeous mountains and rainbows and finds the natives incredibly funny and welcoming. She's most looking forward to being able to ski in July. Enjoy your time there, McKenzie! Starting off our rising sophomores is Kevin Dorosh! Kevin is spending his summer coding as an intern at Teradyne. When not coding at work, he can be found playing basketball, baseball, or ping-pong. During the summer, Kevin broke several records in the Teradyne basketball league. You go, Kevin! Outside of work, Kevin is finally educating himself in the way of movies. He's seen at least 10 movies this summer, a record for him. Next is Jordan Kemp. This summer, Jordan is playing basketball. When he's not tearing up the court, he can be found on his laptop, coding, and spending time with his little brother. \m/_(*-*)_\m/ 8/11/2015 1 Comment Tufflepuffs in the Summer: Part 2We'll kick off this week with rising Junior, David Stack, whose had quite a busy summer! He is working at Explo at Wellesly college. Explo is a summer program for middle school students. At Explo, David teaches two classes: aeronautical engineering and off-road vehicle design. Outside of classes, David leads activities in the afternoon and evening as well as leading trips on weekends. Explo consists of two 3 week sessions, where each session has approximately 450 middle school students in campus dorms and approximately 100 students who commute to the summer program. David says, "The job is difficult and stressful, but fun and rewarding." Next is rising Junior, Madeleine Lebovic! Madeleine is spending her summer interviewing taxidermists and studying Russian to "become a spy" (but not really). Other that, she has been hanging out with friends and home and visiting some other quidditch friends in New York! Madeleine will, unfortunately, be gone for the next academic year, as she will be studying abroad in Germany and Russia! We'll miss you Madeleine! Ian Luo, another one of our rising juniors, is currently backpacking through South America! We hope you're having a lot of fun! Our last rising junior for this post is Nicolas Sempere. This summer, Nick is working in Boston, doing some coding, keeping it casual. Besides working, Nick is traveling as much as he can this summer. So far, he's made stops in New York City, Albany, and Montreal. But he's not stopping there. Later this month he's making the trip across the Atlantic to Athens and Istanbul. Talk about an awesome trip... Have fun! Let’s kick off our Tufflepuffs in the summer with our rising seniors! First up is our Fundraising Coordinator, Emily Hickmott! This summer she’s working in one of the biomedical engineering labs at Tufts with one of our treasurers, Alan Bartels. These wires will help with deep brain stimulation, a nonsurgical treatment used to reduce tremor and to prevent involuntary movements in patients with motion disorders. Emily is also one of the Tufflepuffs who tried out and made the Boston Night Riders, a Major League Quidditch team based in Boston. Next is our co-manager, Arlene Rosenberg. She’s spending the summer back in Montreal, her home town, working for Montreal General Hospital, specifically in the physiotherapy department. When not working in the hospital, Arlene is volunteering at a stroke rehabilitation center. Like every senior, she must think about what she wants to do after she graduates. Arlene is applying to several physiotherapy graduate programs, which she says is “so much fun”. And she’s spending her down time relaxing at home with family and friends. Our third rising senior is former captain, Hannah DeBaets. This summer, Hannah is spending her time working in a chemistry lab at Tufts University. Outside of the lab, Hannah is another Tufflepuff member who is playing for the Major League Quidditch team the Boston Night Riders. She will also be traveling to two quidditch fantasy tournaments in Los Angeles, California and Austin, Texas. Have fun Hannah! And Good luck! And our last, but certainly not least, rising senior is Ben Pfander. Ben spent his summer as a camp counselor, wandering around the woods. Now that camp is over, Ben is spending his time on his laptop and dreaming about cookies. Sneaking in last is one of our rising juniors and one of our treasurers, Alan Bartels! This summer Alan, other than working with Emily on coating wires, is taking and “conquering” organic chemistry. Outside of the academic world, Alan plans on kayaking down the Salmon River, a large river located in Idaho. We wish you the best of luck on your adventure!
